Department of Botany & Industrial Microbiology
Department of Botany came in to existence in 1948 and the postgraduate classes were started in the year 1956. The decades, which followed, were the hay days for the growth of classic botany. With the change in the job market scenario the vocational subjects were in great demand. So the department introduced Microbiology and Biotechnology at the undergraduate level in the year 1992 and 2005 respectively. The department follows the syllabus prescribed by U.G.C. The department has separate labs for all the subjects. The students of vocational subjects are assigned projects, which bring them in contact with industry. The department has facilities for research at the post post-graduate level. Field work and excursions are part of the curriculum.
The department has a museum and botanical garden with greenhouse. At the UG level the department offers the following 5 combinations

1. Botany-Chemistry–Zoology.
2. Botany-Chemistry-Geology.
3. Botany-Chemistry-Microbiology
4. Botany-Chemistry-Biotechnology
